Has any advice on dog training/behaviour changed your dog for the better?

Question by ☆ Memphis Belle ~ Wild Is The Wind ~ ☆: Has any advice on dog training/behaviour changed your dog for the better?
Personally yes it has, as I received some excellent advice from one of my contacts and have ordered a new collar for JJ. Time will tell if he appreciates it, I’m sure I will though.

Dog obedience training, any ideas how much it is?

Question by Lollipop: Dog obedience training, any ideas how much it is?
i’m looking into having my dog trained in obedience. he’s an extremely intelligent border collie, 2 years old, but he’s like a stroppy teenager, if i tell him off for stealing a baby toy that he knows he’s not allowed to have then he’ll throw himself to the floor like he’s going to sleep!! he also has days where he decides he’s not in the mood to listen to me so will do something naughty, if i tell him no, (i almost never shout at him and never smack him) he’ll do it again as soon as my back is turned.

so you can probably tell, he doesn’t need all the training like sit, stay, come here and all that, just needs to learn off-limits areas and off-limits things. i’d like to think one day i can come home and find he hasn’t ‘pinched’ anything.

so does anyone have any experience in having a dog trained? stories? and how much is it roughly?

ps, i did check with other collie owners, he’s getting enough exercise

Go to barns and noble or books a million and purchase the book dog training for dummies. You will learn a lot and save money by training the dog yourself.

Dog Training Tip- Leash Walking: Go Sniff and Marking

This exercise is great for dogs who are constantly crossing in front of their owners on walks to try to reach something to sniff. This video is also good for owners who have dogs who blow them off when they leave the house. By controlling access to real life rewards you can build your importance to your dog when outside of the house. Walks should not only be about exercise for dogs but about mental stimulation. During a walk you can give your dog permission to go sniff so that they can explore an area while you follow behind keeping the leash loose. When you are ready to move on, simply say Lets go and move on. For dogs that are markers you can teach them to walk by your side and then give them breaks to mark in appropriate areas. When the dog is walking on a loose leash at your side if they try to mark on something quickly move on while saying lets go before they get a chance. Then when you are at an appropriate area give your cue go sniff so they can sniff around and mark. Or if you prefer you can teach your dog to pee on cue. By teaching your dog that you can reinforce them with access to the environment, you can get your dog to listen to you out of the house even when you have no toy or treats. —– how to train leash walking, walking on leash, no pulling, teaching a dog where to pee on a walk, training a dog when to sniff, how to train a dog not to pull on a walk puppy training how to train a puppy obedience on a walk real life rewards using the environment as a

dispelling myths on dog training

Dispelling the myth that a dog trained without the use of physical and psychological intimidation won’t listen if he is chasing prey. What is not shown in this video is that Splash only chases prey on cue, she never does it without being cued- as I have put chasing prey under stimulus control. All my dogs are only trained using Progressive Reinforcement Training.

Does an email agreement to meet a client for a fee (for dog training) count as a legally binding contract?

Question by Clanger: Does an email agreement to meet a client for a fee (for dog training) count as a legally binding contract?
I agreed on email to meet a client for dog training at her house at a set time/date. When I turned up at the house, noone was home. The client has since admitted to forgetting about the appointment but is refusing to pay the agreed fee of £100. I made a 50mile round trip to visit the client and wasted 2 hours of my day.

Where do I stand legally? Is she legally obliged to pay me?
No fee has been paid yet. The full amount is still outstanding.

She agreed to the fee on her company email. Does this mean that I could pursue the company as well as her as an individual?

Solving Counter Surfing- Clicker Dog Training

This is a video on how to train your dog not to surf the counters or in other words put their paws up and eat food and items that are on your counters. Remember to keep in mind that during training, items that your dog likes should NOT be left in reach on counters so that you don’t UNDO all the training you have just been doing. As nagging a turkey off the counter WILL train your dog to do it again! At the beginning of the video you will see Tug my new puppy BEFORE I trained him, he would jump up and onto tables to lick them clean. At the end of the video you can see the results of one session that was a couple minutes long. Tips: 1- Make sure the dog NEVER gets the food- it sounds obvious but some dogs are very FAST! 2- If he is struggling to look away from the food, either give him a hint by making an attention noise or take some steps away so he is not as close to the food 3- As he succeeds raise criteria 4- You can start off first with a carrot on the table but the reinforcement is something even better like Chicken 5- Watch my ‘leave it’ video for more information on teaching the leave it Dog training clicker training manners teaching a dog to not touch food on counters counter surfing stealing food

Question by Ciara B: Where is the best dog Training track in Ireland – Dublin ?
AS most of other people seem to have there furry friends kept alive and well.

Best answer:

Answer by Baby Sam’s Godfather
I would have to say Shelbourne but my personal favourite is newbridge its outside dublin but something just makes it special for me.
I have being to both but much prefer newbridge for some reason I just dont like shelbourne as much as newbridge.
I think its because the 1st chance and 2nd chance are both in shelbourne where the chance that makes or breaks is in shelbourne and well if a dog does’nt win there people wont care too much about it so theres just something special about newbridge plus they allow you to train begginers there your dog has to be a pro for shelbourne which rules it out so newbridge.
There all greyhound tracks btw.

Dog Training Tip of the Day- Adding a Verbal Cue

This is my dog training tip of the day for today. It is a continuation of the last tip. In this video you will learn how to add a verbal cue to a behavior that you taught with a hand signal. There are three easy steps to teaching a Verbal Cue: Step 1: Give the hand signal 5-10 times to help the dog predict what you will ask next. Step 2: Say the Verbal Cue BEFORE you move a muscle to do the Visual Cue Step 3: Put time between your new Verbal Cue and your Visual Cue. Wait the dog out and see if they will offer the cue without the hand signal. As you could see Kiko did not know what I wanted at one point, and offered another behavior besides the ‘Spin’. Instead of telling her she was wrong, I made a kissy noise and asked her to touch my hand to reset her. If she had continued to guess incorrectly, I would go back a step and give her the ‘Spin’ hand signal again after saying the verbal cue. The more you play this game the faster your dog will be at picking up new cues. Kiko now knows after a few minutes, that ‘Obama’ is the new word for ‘Spin’. DOGS ARE SO SMART!
